Irfan Yigit is a highly experienced psychologist who has dedicated over four decades to improving mental health outcomes across educational and clinical settings. With a Master’s degree in Education and Counselling Psychology from the University of Western Sydney, Irfan brings a wealth of expertise in psychological assessment, therapeutic intervention, and professional leadership.
Throughout his distinguished career with the NSW Department of Education, Irfan has held several senior positions, most recently serving as Team Leader for the Refugee Student Counselling Support Team (2016-2019), where he established and managed a statewide team delivering trauma-informed support to schools. As District Guidance Officer at Fairfield High School (2008-2015), he provided leadership and professional supervision to school counseling services across 15-20 schools in Western and Southwestern Sydney.
Irfan’s therapeutic approach integrates various evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. He has extensive experience in conducting psychological assessments, including cognitive, academic, and behavioural evaluations, and proficient in writing comprehensive reports for various purposes including NDIS, Centrelink, and Department of Housing.
Having worked extensively with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, Irfan offers bilingual services in English and Turkish.
He specialises in addressing a wide range of psychological concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral issues, and learning difficulties. His expertise extends to working with children, adolescents, adults, and families, with particular skill in supporting individuals through life transitions and complex challenges.
Currently in part-time private practice, Irfan is strongly committed to providing compassionate, culturally sensitive psychological care. His comprehensive educational psychology background and his clinical expertise allow him to offer uniquely informed perspectives in supporting Mind Health clients’ mental health and well-being needs.
