Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an intervention program designed to increase the mental health and well-being of staff while creating a happier and more productive workplace.
An EAP provides confidential and effective solution-focused counselling to employees and their families.
The implementation of an EAP program reduces long term business costs by reducing employee turnover, stress-related absenteeism, poor motivation and recruiting and re-training costs.
What is an EAP?
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) works with and supports employees in relation to both work-related and personal concerns.
An EAP provides employees with employer funded psychology sessions in order to provide the support and early intervention necessary to limit impact on job performance and mental health.
Unless otherwise specified by the employer, this service also extends to immediate family members of the employee as well.
Support provided by EAP’s is not limited to work-related concerns, it can include support for anxiety, depression, relationship/family issues, trauma and substance abuse, among other concerns.
Benefits of Mind Health’s EAP
Mind Health’s EAP allows employers to support their employees – and often their employees’ families – through confidential counselling sessions with psychologists.
They help employees to deal with work-related and personal issues that may affect workplace attitudes, performance and productivity.
Access to an EAP provides a safe, confidential environment to understand and resolve issues that might impact their performance at work.
Employees can gain invaluable coping skills and strategies. Even the simple knowledge that they are valued enough to be provided with assistance improves morale
Studies indicate that an effective EAP program motivates employees to take responsibility for their well-being, preventing “spillover”of domestic tensions affecting employee health and workplace outcomes.
Research by PricewaterhouseCoopers on the effectiveness of EAPs, found that for every dollar invested in EAP, participating companies could expect returns by up to $2.30, including significant reductions in absenteeism and “presentism”, workplace satisfaction and employee retention.
An EAP provides employer-funded, confidential, short-term professional help for employees and sometimes their families confronted with personal issues.
While the problems covered by an EAP often impact directly on work, potentially affecting productivity and workplace relationships, they also include personal and family matters causing employee stress.
